Generation Soccer Futsal League

Sponsored by Adidas

Winter 2015-2016

OVERVIEW

We will host a futsal league for boys and girls ages 8 (U8/08) to 18 (U19/97).  The league will run during December 2015 and January 2016.  Games will be played on Saturday and Sundays between 9am and 2:00pm at Saratoga High School and The Harker School Upper Campus.

Teams can compete in Premiere, Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Copper divisions.  Divisions may be combined to ensure competitive balance.  The Premiere divisions in each age group will consist of many of the top teams in Northern California.

FUTSAL BACKGROUND

Futsal was  developed in Uruguay by Juan Carlos Ceriani Gravier in the 1930s for local YMCAs.  His goal was to create a sport that could be played year round both indoor and outdoors.   Derived from outdoor soccer, futsal's main differences include fewer players, shorter games, smaller goals, and a smaller ball with less bounce. The sport quickly spread throughout South America because players could play anywhere and anytime.

Many international soccer federations prescribe futsal as part of a complete training regimen including US Soccer.  Futsal helps sharpen your technical skills by emphasizing more touches per game, a quick tempo, operating in tight spaces, making quick decisions and building out of the back.

FIELDS

Our league will be  played on artificial turf fields.  While many futsal leagues are played on hard courts in part because of inclement weather, we have found artificial turf to be the ideal surface.   Artificial turf still allows a style of play that emphasizes improvisation, technique, and creativity while minimizing injuries.

RULES

We will mostly adhere to the FIFA Laws of the Game for futsal with a few exceptions.

-Outdoor turf futsal courts
-Futsal goals and balls
-25 yards by 20 yards
-5 v 5 (4 plus a goalkeeper)
-8 players per team (recommended)

We will have a complete list of league rules that differ from the FIFA Laws of the Game before the season starts.

REGISTRATION

Step 1:  Fill out the registration form  by clicking the "register" button.  You will need the name and email address of at least 8 players to register a team.

Step 2: We will send an email to all of the players you register on the team.  Each player must pay the $125 online registration fee and sign the electronic waiver.  Registration closes on Friday, November 20.

We will host all games with referees so there will be no added costs.  We only require the home team to bring an official futsal ball to each match.

Please contact John Rowe at john.rowe@generationsoccer.org if you have any questions.

ROSTERS AND AGE REQUIREMENTS

We recommend roster sizes of 8 players but will accept up to 10 players on a roster.  For this winter, we will adhere to the current age group requirements with the birthday windows between August 1 and July 31.  For example, players in the U10 age group typically have birthdays between 7/31/05 and 8/1/06.  We will allow players to play up one year.

PLAYING DATES AND TIMES

December 5/6, 12/13, 19/20, 26,/27
January 2/3, 9/10, 16/17

Each team will have 6 games, typically one per weekend.  Games will be scheduled each hour between 9:00am and 2:00pm.  Each game will consist of two 20-minute halves.  Games will start at the top of the hour so that all teams will have 10 minutes to warm up on the fields before the games start.  The last weekend of games will be reserved for playoffs.
